Minnesota Orchestra’s Sommerfest explores musical expressions of peace, freedom and reconciliation in celebration of Nelson Mandela’s one hundredth birthday. July 13 through August 1. The International Day of Music is July 21st. This all-day, free event features performances of many musical genres on multiple stages at Orchestra Hall for audiences of all ages. Performers include TU Dance, Insigizi, Marimba Africa, and more. Ladysmith Black Mambazo performs on Tuesday, July 31st at 7:30pm. This energetic performance features songs of social justice, hope and celebration that reflect the stories of the South African people.

Since 2006, the FLOW Northside Arts Crawl has become both a community celebration and premier art event in North Minneapolis. FLOW happens July 26-28 and is a non-juried, self-guided tour of studios, galleries, theaters, commercial and vacant spaces over a mile and half of the West Broadway corridor. Interact Center for the Visual and Performing Arts announces the Interact Second Line Jazz Parade is Saturday, August 4th at Father Hennepin Bluff Park in Minneapolis. The Parade is a New Orleans style kick-off for their show, Hot Funky Butt Jazz, opening at the Guthrie in November.
