Julian’s compositions and performances are emotionally dynamic\, drawing from the worlds of Robert Glasper\, Keith Jarrett\, and Herbie Hancock. Julian steadily releases and performs music under his own name—Julian Davis Reid & Circle of Trust—and with his jazz-electronic fusion group The JuJu Exchange. He has recently released his first two full-length releases: Vocation\, under his own name\, and BEHOLD with The JuJu Exchange. \nA former member of Isaiah Collier & The Chosen Few\, Julian has performed across North America and Europe at events including the Montreal Jazz Fest\, Lollapalooza\, and the Berlin Jazz Fest. DESCRIPTION:Please join Canadh Croí as we celebrate the release of our debut album “Badenya”. \nCanadh Croí is a multi-cultural musical ensemble that combines the complex and irresistible rhythms of West Africa with the beautiful\, flowing melodies of Ireland and Scotland. The group features a stellar lineup of Twin Cities musicians\, ranging from internationally recognized masters to dedicated young artists carrying these traditions into the next generation. \nThe African rhythms are provided by brothers Fodé and Sana Bangoura\, as well as Fodé’s son Fara Bangoura. Before coming to the Twin Cities and founding the Minneapolis-based group Duniya Drum and Dance\, Fodé was the lead drummer for the national ballet of Guinea\, Les Ballets Africains\, and Sana was the principal dancer and assistant director of the Guinean drum and dance ensemble Wassasso. Fara has been drumming and performing since he was five years old under the tutelage of his father. \nThe Celtic musicians include flutist and singer Laura MacKenzie\, a central figure in the Twin Cities Celtic music scene for decades\, who has been recognized by the Minnesota State Arts Board as a Master Folk Artist; fiddle player Danny Diamond\, who formerly served as music director for the Irish dance-theater company Teaċ Daṁsa; banjo player Morien McBurnie\, one of the new generation of young artists emerging from the Celtic Junction music scene; and clarinetist Sean Egan\, who has worked for over forty years to expand the boundaries of traditional music. Danny Diamond\, Sean Egan\, and Morien McBurnie all teach at the Center for Irish Music\, one of our resident partner organizations! \nAn exciting fusion of two very strong and vibrant traditions—Irish Arts Minnesota \nSean Egan is a fiscal year 2025 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. DESCRIPTION:Melvin Gibbs will be doing a live remix of his latest album\, Amasia: Anaminia Sessions 2\, which Pitchfork described as a “dynamic amalgam of avant-club music\, post-vaporwave prog\, and electrifying jazz fusion.” Before and after Gibbs’s set\, expect to hear a DJ set of deep jazz and soul cuts\, future-forward R&B\, and experimental ambience from Yonci. \n⊹ \nMelvin Gibbs is a Grammy-nominated composer\, musician\, and writer born and raised in Brooklyn\, NY. Time Out New York once wrote that he was “the greatest bassist in the world\,” and JazzTimes rated him No. 1 Electric Bassist in its 2019 Critics Poll. His first book\, How Black Music Took Over The World\, will be published by Basic Books in April 2026. \nGibbs’s latest album\, Amasia: Anamibia Sessions 2—released in October 2025 on Hausu Mountain Records—was called “a triumph” by Pitchfork. They described the record as “a dynamic amalgam of avant-club music\, post-vaporware prog\, and electrifying prog\,” in contrast to his 2022 record The Wave: Anamibia Sessions 1\, which they described as “abstract low-end rumblings somewhere between Thomas Koner’s 1990s gong experiments and Sunn O))) at their most subterranean.” \nGibbs’s diverse musical background includes mentorship by Ornette Coleman and Gil Evans; stints in Defunkt and the Rollins Band; collaborations in ensembles including Power Tools alongside Bill Frisell and Ronald Shannon Jackson\, the cooperative Harriet Tubman\, and the band Body Meπa; as well as work with Arto Lindsay\, dead prez\, Caetano Veloso\, DJ Logic\, David Byrne\, Eddie Palmieri\, and Sonny Sharrock. Roehm’s vibes are essential to the imaginatively interpretative trio the New Standards\, fronted by Chan Poling (the Suburbs) and John Munson (Semisonic). As a supporting musician\, Schwartz has played with many singer-songwriters and acoustic acts\, including Dan Navarro and Peter Mayer. Drummer Greg Schutte\, in addition to being among the finest jazz drummers in the Twin Cities\, has played and toured with Mickey Hart\, Chastity Brown\, and Ryan Bingham\, a gig he shares with NHQT bassist Nick Salisbury. Schutte is also a sound designer and runs a recording studio\, Boom Island Recording\, where he ably produced the Neighborhood Quartet’s album. The big-eared and agile Salisbury\, despite stiff internal competition\, must be the group’s most scheduled player; in 2023\, he played 353 gigs\, and is a particular favorite with songwriters and Americana acts such as Brian Fallon\, Sarah Morris\, Jack Klatt\, and the Dollys.

With a deep passion for gypsy jazz (also known as jazz manouche or hot club jazz)\, the band highlights the signature style pioneered by guitarist and Roma composer Django Reinhardt in 1930s–1950s Paris. Staying true to Django’s unmistakable sound\, Mississippi Hot Club delivers lively improvisation built on solo guitar\, violin\, upright bass\, and the driving la pompe rhythm guitar. The group also stretches the tradition forward\, weaving in modern twists and influences. In a live set\, you might hear everything from romantic ballads and American jazz standards to European folk tunes and even science-fiction themes. \n✧ \nJoshua Parlanti is the bandleader and lead guitarist. Trained as a classical pianist\, he is a self-taught master guitarist\, most notably in the style of Django Reinhardt. Joshua now works as a professional sound engineer and producer at Wild Sound Recording Studio. \nAlissa “Big Al” Jacobsen is a force to be reckoned with. A farmer by day and a violin slayer by night\, Big Al truly dazzles the crowd with her endless energy and syncopated riffs. You may also catch her playing bluegrass at the bar or a square dance at the local hall. \nJoseph Downing grew up in a family of musicians in Northern Minnesota. Beyond playing bass like a total boss\, he is a songwriter\, guitar player\, and tattoo removal specialist. He runs a motorcycle repair garage and has three dogs. \nIan Stenlund has been playing in bands of all genres for more than 17 years. In MHC\, he “plays the drums on guitar” in the la pompe technique\, which gives gypsy jazz its unique swing sound. By day\, he owns his own business\, delivering mobile saunas.

Since returning to his hometown St. Paul\, he has had a life of music—playing\, composing\, arranging\, producing\, and recording. Magraw’s music is impossible to pigeonhole. For 15 years\, he was half of a duo with mandolinist Peter Ostroushko. He has collaborated with Masahiro Nitta\, who plays the traditional Japanese shamisen; with Nigel Kennedy\, Britain’s bad boy of the classical violin; with Nirmala Rajasekar\, South Indian vocalist and player of the vina; with the singers Bruce Henry\, Ruth MacKenzie\, and Claudia Schmidt; and with the Irish supergroup Altan. As a jazz cat\, he leads his own trio\, has been performing with Chris Bates and Jay Epstein as Red Planet since 2002\, and more recently formed BluLuna. \nSuwal Singh has contributed to the Minnesota music scene as part of SitarTabla (Eastern classical)\, MoMoSauce (Nepali music)\, Yeti Steady (avant-garde soundscapes) and Jest (pop-rock). He has collaborated with diverse local artists and has appeared at Jazz Central Studios\, Icehouse\, Varsity Theater Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center\, Berlin Jazz Club\, KFAI\, etc.

DESCRIPTION:At the age of 24\, Dale Alexander had a rich and varied musical background than many musicians achieve in a lifetime. Studying with prominent musicians such as Marvin Dahlgren and Dr. Reginald Buckner of the University School of Music served to enhance Dale’s unlimited natural musical talent. He was recognized by the University of Wisconsin with a National Jazz Education Award for his outstanding individual performance as a percussionist. By the time he graduated from high school\, he had already performed with the nationally known soul group\, the Temptations. \nIn the ensuing years\, Dale has appeared with virtually every well-known jazz artist in the States. After conquering the drums\, he turned his sights toward the piano studying with Manfredo Fest. \nDale worked as one of the Musical Directors for the Christmas performance from “American Idol on Tour” and is available for national and international engagements. He is also available for both piano and drum lessons in his studio in Chatsworth\, California. \n​In the early 90s\, he was Musical Director for Andiamo’s\, a world class jazz club in Aspen and stayed there until he moved to the Los Angeles area. DESCRIPTION:KDTU has electrified audiences around the world for over twenty-five years. They have played the fields of Naeba in Japan at the infamous Fuji Rock Festival. Also\, the hallowed stage of Madison Square Garden\, joining the Dave Matthews Band and The Godfather of Soul\, James Brown. Further\, he performed as Sexual Chocolate (Karl was in the original band in the movie Coming To America and its sequel) at the Outside Lands Music festival in San Francisco. And\, they were the first late night act at the inaugural Bonnaroo festival. KDTU has been a dominating force in music for nearly three decades. \nAll-night\, sold-out concerts during Jazzfest in New Orleans have featured sit-ins by legends like Lenny Kravitz and Steve Winwood. (Karl has recorded and toured with both!) Also\, avant-garde luminaries like Marc Ribot and Boyfriend. Rolling Stones bandmates Chuck Leavell and Bernard Fowler have also joined onstage and on record. There\, Karl replaced the great Bobby Keys as saxophonist in 2014. Denson has also worked with Lukas Nelson\, John Oates\, Michael Franti\, Warren Haynes\, Ivan Neville\, and Anders Osborne. Additionally\, Big Daddy Kane\, Roy Hargrove\, Maceo Parker\, Fred Wesley\, Joshua Redman\, Marcus King\, and Bernie Worrell\, among others. \nVery few concertgoers have been untouched by the Tiny Universe live. They toured the country with the Allman Brothers\, My Morning Jacket\, D’Angelo\, The Roots\, and Public Enemy. Also\, Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead\, Parliament Funkadelic\, Slightly Stoopid\, and Widespread Panic. In addition to KDTU\, Karl Denson aka “Diesel” is a founding member of the seminal groove act The Greyboy Allstars.

DESCRIPTION:Tim Sparks has been redefining the acoustic guitar repertoire since he won the National Fingerpicking Championship in 1993 with a ground breaking arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. Sparks continues to surprise\, challenge\, and thrill audiences with his diverse repertoire and stunning technique. Equally at home with Country Blues\, Jazz or World Music\, Sparks’ extraordinary ability has earned him an international reputation as one of the most innovative guitarists working today.\nTrained by Segovia protege Jesus Silva at the North Carolina School of the Arts\, Sparks has continued to study classical music throughout his career. His adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite has been cited as a significant contribution to solo guitar literature. For Sparks it was a labor of love that earned him the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in Winfield\, Kansas in 1993\nHis wide travels inspired his interest in European and Mediterranean styles\, particularly the music of the Balkans. Upon his return to Minnesota\, Sparks immersed himself in the ethnic music scene\, performing on Oud and Saz in Middle Eastern ensembles and playing guitar in Greek\, Klezmer\, and Sephardic groups. This work culminated in the recording of Sparks’ Balkan Dreams Suite\, a remarkable collection of odd-meter guitar arrangements. \nSparks’ work came to the attention of John Zorn\, the saxophonist\, composer\, and curator of Tzadik Records in New York and thereby led to a new cycle of compositions inspired by traditional Jewish melodies. Neshamah (1999) is a solo effort; Tanz\, (2000) which garnered Downbeat Magazine’s highest praise\, five stars; and At the Rebbe’s Table (2002). In 2003 Tzadik released Masada Guitars\, featuring interpretations of John Zorn’s music by Tim\, Bill Frisell\, and Marc Ribot. \nIn recent years\, Sparks’ musical focus has come full circle\, returning to the country blues and classic jazz that served as a springboard for his worldwide guitar explorations. He toured with Dolly Parton in 2005 and recorded Roots\, Rags and Blues for Truefire Acoustic Guitar Workshop.\nSparks released Sidewalk Blues on the ToneWood label in February 2009 and recorded Little Princess\, his fifth CD for Tzadik\, in New York in 2009. Post-Modern Fingerstyle Guitar was released on Truefire in 2011.\nSparks released Chasin’ the Boogie\, his 10th acoustic guitar recording on May 30\, 2014 followed by Jukebox Dreamin’ in December 2018. \n
