SUMMARY:Minnesota Irish Music Weekend
DESCRIPTION:The Minnesota Irish Music Weekend is a unique festival that pairs world-class traditional Irish musicians and teachers with learners of all ages for a weekend of workshops\, lectures\, sessions\, and concerts. \nOur visiting artists are recognized for their musical mastery. They will offer insights and techniques to help learners tap into the deep roots of traditional Irish music. This year’s featured artists include musicians Michael Rooney – harp\, concertina; June McCormack – flute; Louise Mulcahy – uilleann pipes\, flute; Macdara Ó Faoláin – fiddle\, bouzouki\, song; Diarmuid Ó Meachair – accordion; Shane Mulchrone – tenor banjo; and Laura Feddersen – fiddle! \nThe 2026 weekend includes a rousing Kick-Off Celebration at a local brewery. The Great Session Experience is free\, open to all\,  and includes céili dance with a live band! The much-anticipated Master Artists Concert\, featuring all visiting artists\, is a must-see event. \nWorkshops are offered in accordion\, banjo\, bouzouki\, concertina\, fiddle\, flute\, harp\, whistle\, uilleann pipes\, and song\, along with fascinating in-depth talks and lectures with visiting artists on the Irish musical tradition. Programs aimed at 8 to 13-year-olds\, teens\, and adults are offered.

SUMMARY:Canadh Croí—“Badenya” Album Release Concert at Celtic Junction
DESCRIPTION:Please join Canadh Croí as we celebrate the release of our debut album “Badenya”. \nCanadh Croí is a multi-cultural musical ensemble that combines the complex and irresistible rhythms of West Africa with the beautiful\, flowing melodies of Ireland and Scotland. The group features a stellar lineup of Twin Cities musicians\, ranging from internationally recognized masters to dedicated young artists carrying these traditions into the next generation. \nThe African rhythms are provided by brothers Fodé and Sana Bangoura\, as well as Fodé’s son Fara Bangoura. Before coming to the Twin Cities and founding the Minneapolis-based group Duniya Drum and Dance\, Fodé was the lead drummer for the national ballet of Guinea\, Les Ballets Africains\, and Sana was the principal dancer and assistant director of the Guinean drum and dance ensemble Wassasso. Fara has been drumming and performing since he was five years old under the tutelage of his father. \nThe Celtic musicians include flutist and singer Laura MacKenzie\, a central figure in the Twin Cities Celtic music scene for decades\, who has been recognized by the Minnesota State Arts Board as a Master Folk Artist; fiddle player Danny Diamond\, who formerly served as music director for the Irish dance-theater company Teaċ Daṁsa; banjo player Morien McBurnie\, one of the new generation of young artists emerging from the Celtic Junction music scene; and clarinetist Sean Egan\, who has worked for over forty years to expand the boundaries of traditional music. Danny Diamond\, Sean Egan\, and Morien McBurnie all teach at the Center for Irish Music\, one of our resident partner organizations! \nAn exciting fusion of two very strong and vibrant traditions—Irish Arts Minnesota \nSean Egan is a fiscal year 2025 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. \nOnline tickets will be available until 4 pm on the day of the show. DESCRIPTION:Join Irish harpist and singer Hannah Flowers for the album launch of her new Holiday album “The Harp and the Holly.” Celebrate the warmth and hope of the Christmas season while enjoying an evening of favorite and lesser-known carols and songs from Ireland and the British Isles. Set aside some time as the longest night of the year approaches to slow down and savor a restful evening of music with family and friends. \nThe concert will feature special guests Dáithí Sproule (guitar)\, Stephanie Claussen (harp)\, Carmen Pasquerella (flute)\, and Mattie Snyder (cello). \nHannah Flowers is a singer and harpist from St. Paul\, Minnesota. Classically trained from a young age\, she discovered traditional Irish music as a teenager. Through the years she’s had the opportunity to study with harpists Michael Rooney and Gráinne Hambly while on a Fulbright research award in Ireland. Hannah has been granted many awards for her performances and is a sought-after teacher\, having taught at Somerset Folk Harp Festival\, Huron Harp Festival in Ontario\, the Harp Gathering in Ohio\, and other festivals around the US. \nShe holds a BA in Music and a MA in Irish Traditional Music Performance from Maynooth University in Ireland. Hannah released her second album “Hall-Gate House” in 2022\, and her third album “The Harp and the Holly” in 2025.
