SUMMARY:Della Mae at The Cedar Cultural Center
DESCRIPTION:Della Mae is a GRAMMY-nominated all-woman string band playing bluegrass\, Americana\, and folk music steeped in rich harmonies and soul-stirring melodies. \nAs a majority queer\, fiercely feminist five-piece acoustic outfit\, [Della Mae] sing fearlessly on topics that might rile the genre’s traditionally conservative audiences. Recent albums have covered everything from domestic violence and fertility issues to the separation of families at the US border with Mexico. They also play barnstorming numbers about motorbikes and bourbon. – The Guardian\, 2022.

SUMMARY:Yasmin Williams at the Cedar Cultural Center
DESCRIPTION:Yasmin Williams is one of the most innovative voices in guitar playing today\, crafting rich instrumental compositions that sway from traditional folk to atmospheric soundscapes\, experimenting with rich tapestries of sound. Her performance at The Cedar this Spring is sure to be a highlight of our 2026 calendar. \nYasmin Williams is an innovative guitarist and composer known for her unique compositional approach and expansive instrumental style. Her latest album Acadia\, released on Nonesuch Records\, showcases her evolution from solo performer to collaborative artist\, featuring partnerships with notable musicians like Aoife O’Donovan and Immanuel Wilkins. \nWilliams’ distinctive creative process involves “ruminating” on single notes until compositions naturally emerge. Beyond traditional fingerpicked guitar\, she demonstrates mastery of multiple instruments including kora\, harp guitar\, banjo\, and electric guitar. Her music\, while rooted in folk traditions\, transcends conventional structures to incorporate elements of progressive rock and experimental composition. \nFollowing her acclaimed 2021 album Urban Driftwood\, Acadia represents a significant artistic expansion\, featuring three distinct sections that move from traditional folk influences to atmospheric soundscapes and experimental arrangements. Williams’ approach emphasizes sustained tones and intricate articulation\, creating music that balances technical precision with ethereal\, floating melodies.

SUMMARY:Them Coulee Boys with Kiernan at the Cedar Cultural Center
DESCRIPTION:Them Coulee Boys spent the past decade-plus establishing themselves as one of the Midwest’s premier purveyors of bluegrass and Americana. The Cedar is thrilled to welcome the Eau Claire-based band to our stage for the first time. \n“A rollicking blend of bluegrass\, folk\, and rock and roll” – Folk Alley \nSoren Staff and Beau Janke—co-founders of folk/rock/Americana outfit Them Coulee Boys—met as camp counselors in northern Wisconsin in 2011. Their weekend workshopping of Avett Brothers and classic country tunes led to original songs and adding Soren’s brother Jens on mandolin\, Neil Krause on electric bass and Stas Hable on drums. \nThe band’s name is a nod to the glacial melt-carved river valleys they call home\, known by early French fur trappers as coulees. Known for wild swings of emotion during sets\, it is not unusual to see fans in tears and minutes later dancing with abandon. The honesty and ability to talk and sing about the feelings and emotions that shape them has endeared them to a growing group of fans and friends. \nKiernan is the Minneapolis-based musical project of Laura Kiernan\, who is very excited to be playing with a band. Her indie folk tunes can be described as “sounds for when you’re feeding the pigeons.” In other words: soft\, silly\, spacious and best done with friends. She is joined by Nate LeBrun (Humbird\, Squinny) on drums\, Maddie Thies (anni xo\, Sister Species) on bass\, and Jared Johnson on guitar. The band released its first full length album in 2025\, after being named one of the Best New Bands by First Avenue that year. They’re excited to release more this year – they hope it nourishes your ears like a nice hunk of bread.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Yagody at the Cedar Cultural Center
DESCRIPTION:Yagody is a Ukrainian group dedicated to performing both traditional and contemporary folk music from the East. \n“A concert with Yagódy is a ritual … there is the breathing of the wind in the field\, a sound like the voice of our ancestors. The listeners are enveloped in living energy and musical trance. A dance of voices in the pulse of humanity.” — Internationales Donaufest \nThe music of the band “YAGODY” is a sign of initiation. It is the wind in the wilderness. It is the songs of wild tribes. This is the voice of your ancestors. This is live energy. It is a dance with voices. This is how our nature smells. This is how our blood sounds. \nOur project “YAGODY” appeared in June 2016. As is typical for everything real\, the band appeareth spontaneously. As if it was meant to be. For the group’s sake\, we took up a lot of musical instruments and looked through a lot of lyrics to find our song\, our ritual.  And now it has finally come! \nOur music is filled with Ukrainian sound and Balkan motifs. It is important to us that the lyrics that flow in you\, are also sound on your lips. Our music is the letters from the past that you did not receive. \nAnd also our music is about us. Four women with different temperaments and experiences. Zoriana Dybovska (percussion)\, Sofiia Leshyshak (djembe)\, Nadiia Parashchuk (accordion)\, and Tetiana Voitiv (drymba and Tibetan bowl). We are completely different from each other\, and that is why the name of our band begins with the sound “YA”. In Ukrainian it means “Me”. We are similar in our differences. \nIn short\, “YAGODY” is a way inside yourself. Into your heart. In our music\, everything is united into a single whole. Returning to the home of your ancestors becomes possible. So\, watch and listen! \nThe band’s members: \nZoriana Dybovska – vocals\, percussion instruments; \nVasylyna Voloshyn – vocals; \nTetiana Voitiv – vocals\, Tibetan bowl\, percussion instruments\, drymba; \nNadiia Parashchuk – vocals\, accordion; \nVadym Voitovych – bass guitar; \nTeimyraz Gogitidze – drums; \nVasyl Parashchuk – cymbals

SUMMARY:Mary Halvorson: Canis Major with Nelson Devereaux at the Cedar Cultural Center
DESCRIPTION:Incomparable guitarist and composer Mary Halvorson brings Canis Major to the Cedar stage for the first time. Dave Adewumi (trumpet)\, Henry Fraser (bass)\, Tomas Fujiwara (drums) round out the quartet. \nThere’s a theory of record production that says the best results come shortly after musicians have encountered a piece for the first time. That’s when it’s possible to get the intuitive reaction\, before players develop a frame of reference. First thought\, best thought. \nAn opposite theory holds that the magic happens later\, after the ensemble has absorbed the material. That’s when the musicians can lean into its nuances\, leveraging familiarity into swagger. \nMary Halvorson’s dramatic\, daringly intricate new album About Ghosts suggests that these approaches can be complementary. The eight-song work is the guitarist and composer’s fourth full-length with her sextet Amaryllis—plus saxophonists Immanuel Wilkins and Brian Settles. Halvorson wrote some of the music for the core group in 2023\, and then\, following what she describes as a snap impulse\, experimented with a piece for four horns instead of two. Just to try it.

SUMMARY:Mei Semones at the Cedar Cultural Center
DESCRIPTION:Mei Semones’ sweetly evocative blend of jazz\, bossa nova and math-y indie rock is not only a way for her to find solace in her favorite genres\, but is an intuitive means of catharsis. “Blending everything that I like together and trying to make something new — that’s what feels most natural to me\,” says the 23-year-old Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter and guitarist. “It’s what feels most true to who I am as an artist.” On her newest EP and Bayonet Records debut Kabutomushi\, Mei’s diverse sonic palette adds depth to her experiences of the complexities of love. Through the EP’s five songs\, she chronicles infatuation\, devotion\, vulnerability\, and saying goodbye in some of her closest relationships\, complete with sweeping strings\, virtuosic guitar-playing and heartfelt lyrics sung in both English and Japanese.

SUMMARY:Dálava at the Cedar Cultural Center
DESCRIPTION:Dálava\, the genre-defying ensemble led by vocalist Julia Úlehlawith guitarist Aram Bajakian (Lou Reed\, John Zorn\, Diana Krall)\, returns with Understories\, a deeply evocative new album that explores uncharted territories of sound. Seamlessly weaving Moravian folk traditions with an experimental\, improvisational approach\, Understories takes the listener on a journey through captivating sonic worlds. Dálava’s music has received critical acclaim for its expressive depth: fRoots extolled their prior release as “so overwhelming and so intense that it is hard to put into any category…. Saying that The Book of Transfigurations is a masterpiece is not an exaggeration.” \nMost of the pieces in Dálava’s repertoire are inspired by a collection of folk songs compiled in the book Živá Píseň (Living Song) written by Úlehla’s great-grandfather. A biologist and ethnomusicoloist\, Vladimír Úlehla (1888-1947) meticulously transcribed hundreds of folk songs from his hometown\, the Moravian village of Strážnice in southeast Czechia. On Understories Julia Úlehla exhibits an ineffable kinship to these songs\, a deeply-rooted living bond to the land of her father’s and great-grandfather’s birth. The American-born daughter of a refugee from communist Czechoslovakia\, Julia Úlehla directs Dálava’s interpretations of these centuries-old transcriptions\, ensuring they are conferred with a respect not only for the music as a historical artifact\, but as living\, breathing organisms that speak to their metaphysical universality. Dálava\, which means ‘the disappearing line on the horizon\, where sky and land merge into each other\,’ is an apt description of the group’s approach: The music resides in that indeterminate\, liminal space between past and future\, magic and realism\, neither primordial nor of this world. The album is a sonic exploration that transcends time and borders\, fusing disparate traditions into a singular\, emotionally charged experience.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Grosse Isle at the Cedar Cultural Center
DESCRIPTION:Grosse Isle is a trio of traditional musicians from Québec and Ireland\, comprising Irish uilleann piper Fiachra O’Regan\, Québec fiddler/singer Sophie Lavoie\, and guitarist André Marchand. \nGrosse Isle is a group that “represents the musical best of two great cultures”\, Ireland and Québec (Roots music Canada). They have been involved in the trad/Celtic/folk scene for more than a decade and have recorded numerous critically acclaimed albums. \nWith music and song on an array of  instruments including uilleann pipes\, fiddle\, piano\, whistle & banjo\, Grosse Isle bring us on a journey through time and place with their carefully curated selection of traditional tunes and songs\, as well as new repertoire by 3 times Canadian Folk Music Awards nominee Sophie Lavoie who has been described by Folkworld magazine as a sublime composer\, and by Songlines magazine as a “lovely singer”. The piping of all Ireland champion Fiachra O’Regan\, described as “alternatively wild and more delicately restrained” by FRoots magazine\, adds the unmistakable irish flavour to the group. The sound is completed by the rich accompaniment of Prix Alor Reléve recipient Francois-Félix Roy. \n

SUMMARY:Amanda Pascali at the Cedar Cultural Center
DESCRIPTION:As the rising voice of America’s most ethnically diverse generation of young people\, singer-songwriter Amanda Pascali writes music that speaks to the experience of growing up as a first-generation American. Blending folk/American influences with Mediterranean\, Balkan\, and Latin rhythms\, Pascali’s songs are powerful tales of America told through the eyes of immigrants and those who have always felt like the “other.” \nAmanda Pascali embodies the complexity of modern identity. Born to a mother from Cairo who grew up in France and an Italian father raised in Romania\, she’s a mixed-race\, bilingual Gen Z troubadour perpetually caught between worlds. Quoting poet Ijeoma Umebinyuo\, she says\, “I’m often ‘too foreign for here\, too foreign for home\, and never enough for both.’” Rather than lamenting this displacement\, Pascali has transformed it into her artistic superpower.

SUMMARY:Dar Williams with Joy Clark at the Cedar Cultural Center
DESCRIPTION:The Cedar is proud to welcome back folk songwriter Dar Williams\, described as “one of America’s very best singer-songwriters” by the New Yorker. Her new album is out this September on Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records. \n“It’s a highway\, filled with deep\, exotic colors and beautiful delicate things as well as the perils that come from moving so fast\,” says Dar Williams\, describing modern life. On her 13th album\, Hummingbird Highway\, out September 12 on Righteous Babe Records\, Williams celebrates the colors she glimpses from her vantage as a touring musician. “I was a kid from the suburbs who listened when her hippie teachers said to get out in the world\,” Williams muses. Hummingbird Highway is the latest chapter in a richly unfolding story. Drawing on her experience as a playwright\, Williams populates her latest album with nuanced characters that come alive in the space of a few minutes. \nJoy Clark is a New Orleans singer-songwriter\, lyrical guitarist and composer who creates soulful original compositions that celebrate peace and the undeniable power of love. Her intricate rhythms and warm melodies reveal a sweet vulnerability that enchants her audiences around the world.
