Minnesota’s Jazz Station, 88.5 KBEM-FM, is seeking a host/producer to take charge of three arts and culture program projects between now and June 30, 2021:
1. Research, find sources, record, write, create, and publish 50 one-minute radio history segments.
2. Manage our stream-only, local music and student-focused second channel. Includes adding new music & existing longform content, managing automation schedule, production elements, and promotion. Facilitate creation of student-oriented or student-driven content for air on the stream. Assist with potential migration of the stream to a new automation system. Host/produce two-hour jazz show on FM signal, and schedule it for rebroadcast on the stream. Seek out or create value-added content to include in show (interviews, album or performance reviews, special sets).
3. Produce and host 12 one-hour radio programs focusing on high-school jazz bands and individual musicians. Acquire and create recordings of their work and profile/engage students in guest-DJ shows or segments, presenting and talking about music that inspires them.
Create promotional materials for these programs, including sourcing or creating images. Generate promotional materials for air, social media, and Web use. Upload the programs to our playback & archive systems.
This is a contract position with compensation based on full-time effort at $35/hour through June 30, 2021, with additional contract opportunities available thereafter.
Much of this work will need to be done remotely, as access to our production facilities will be limited for the foreseeable future. Successful applicant will have access to their own production facility, demonstrated savvy with audio production and distanced interviewing techniques (Zoom, etc.), a demonstrated understanding of jazz and related music, a demonstrated positive hosting affect and tone, ability to work with youth and pass a background check, two professional references, and their own transportation.
Please address all of the above requirements in cover letter and resume sent to travis@jazz88.fm by 5 p.m. CT Monday, January 25. Diverse candidates encouraged to apply.
