Something Jazz-Related To Do Every Day at the Minnesota State Fair

Thomasina Petrus Singing

The Minnesota State Fair is here and we couldn’t be more excited about how much jazz there is to offer this year. No matter what day you go, you should be able to take in a great jazz experience. We sincerely encourage you to come through on Friday, August 26 and/or Saturday, August 27 when we’ll be holding court in the Education Building. We’ll have live broadcasts from Manny Hill, Travis Ryder, and Sean McPherson on Friday. On Saturday, you’ll be able to catch a live broadcast of Bluegrass Saturday Morning with Phil Nusbaum, starting at 9AM, and Good Acoustics with Erik Brandt, starting at 1PM.

Come by and say hello! Grab some swag and witness the magic of live radio right before your eyes. Though, if your Fair schedule brings you down on a different day, there is still plenty of jazz to enjoy! Here is a friendly list of some jazz-related events to enjoy every day at the Minnesota State Fair:

Thursday, August 25 – Sarah Morris at the BOB FM Stage – 4pm

Celebrated songstress Sarah Morris is gracing the BOB FM stage on day one of the Minnesota State Fair. Though she pulls songs from all over the musical map, we’ve always been drawn to the jazzier side of her offerings, especially the song “Between Here and There” which frequently gets a spin on Sunday Morning Jazz when Bobby Vandell is in the booth.

Friday, August 26 – The Working Stiffs at the International Bazaar – 10:45am, 12:00pm and 1:00pm

Steve Clarke and the Working Stiffs are gracing the stage of the International Bazaar on Friday morning, celebrating the big band sound with expert saxophone delivered by Steve Clarke himself.

Tuesday, August 30 – Rhythm and Swing at the Cosgrove Stage – 3:30 pm, 4:30 pm, 5:30 pm

Jazz is a music best enjoyed while moving one’s body, and with Rhythm and Swing, you’ll get a chance to see steps like the Lindy Hop and the Charleston in action. Get the body moving while enjoying some of the dance moves that are such a central part of the jazz story.

Wednesday, August 31 – Siama’s Congo Music in Dan Patch Park – 10:00 am
