Jazz88 celebrates the birthday of Clare Fischer, born on October 22, 1928. Fischer was an innovative arranger and an accomplished keyboardist and composer. His tunes Pensativa and Morning have become jazz standards. He worked with the vocal group the Hi-Los, trumpeter Donald Byrd, Dizzy Gillespie, and made several recordings of latin jazz and bossa nova under his own name as well. Herbie Hancock cited Fischer as one of his inspirations and at the end of his long and venerable career, he earned thirteen grammy nominations and won 3 grammy awards, including for Best Latin Recording in 1981, Best Instrumental Latin Jazz album in 2012, and Best Instrumental composition in 2013.
In addition to his jazz and classical output, Fischer wrote arrangements for a wide array of pop superstars including Prince, Chaka Khan and Paula Abdul.
Fischer died in 2012 at the age of 83. His musical legacy s being carried forward by his son, Brent Fischer.
