Hot New Local Single: Zacc Harris

Zacc Harris is a fixture in the Twin Cities jazz scene. More than just a celebrated guitar player, Harris is the head of Shifting Paradigm Records, a Minnesota-based record label that releases gems from all around the globe. For Harris’s latest release, Chasing Shadows, he left his students and his family in Minneapolis for a couple days and got out to a cabin in Wisconsin. That retreat brought Harris a focus and a patience that can be hard to find inside the city and that focus and patience brought in a whole new slew of songs that Harris has been recording both as a leader and with the Atlantis Quartet. Inspired by his son’s preference for the term “this day” over “today”, Harris churned out a patient ballad titled “This Day” that channels a calmness hard to come by in modern jazz. I as particularly impressed with how Brandon Wozniak’s sax solo complements Harris solo and deftly expand the moods of the tune. Harris takes the stage of Volstead’s Emporium this evening.

Hot New Local Singles highlights new, local songs. Minnesota has a lot of great jazz, funk, soul, and jazz- adjacent music, and Jazz88 is highlighting what is fresh.
