At Jazz88, we have polled you all about your favorite music of 2024, gathered those we would like to remember, and created some great segments to celebrate the year. Here is a schedule of special programming on Jazz88 this holiday season.
Best Local Releases of the Year 2024 will premiere Monday, December 16, 2024 at 7 p.m., hosted by Sam Keenan on Minnesota Jazz Tracks. Best Local Releases highlights the locally-grown music Jazz88 listeners have enjoyed most. Enjoy the sounds of the likes of Kavyesh Kaviraj, Davina & the Vagabonds, Society of Chemists, along with more local bands.

In 2024, we lost some big names in jazz, from sax legend Benny Golson to local icon Spider John Koerner. Join Sean McPherson in celebrating those we lost this year.

and re-air January 1, 2025 12 noon
Great jazz music was created this year. We highlight the national hits you all enjoyed and voted for in our Favorite Songs of the Year poll. From Lakecia Benjamin with her sax to Bill Frisell with his piano there will be something for everyone.
Sean premieres our Jazz88’s Favorite Songs of 2024 on December 21 at 8 pm
with a rebroadcast scheduled for January 1, 2025 at 1 pm

Drivetimes on December 24 will include the news and traffic you expect, with music chosen entirely from our holiday library.
Between 10 and 3 on December 24, we’ll present these specials:
10 a.m.: An Afro Blue Christmas, the holiday special from the a capella choir at Howard University
11 a.m.: Jazz Night In America holiday special
Noon: A Holiday for Swinging, Dan Polletta’s show exploring the intersection between jazz and Christmastime tunes
1 p.m.: An all-holiday edition of The Bing Shift with Arne Fogel
2 p.m.: Ol’ Blue Eyes and his pals in a Christmas mood: Sinatra & Friends with the late Wayne Selly
Christmas Day will be filled with holiday specials, including a new special from the semi-retired Fiona Ritchie. Hear A Thistle & Shamrock Christmas at 11 a.m.
Then at noon, Nick Spitzer’s American Routes presents sounds of wintertime, the Solstice, and the holidays.
At 7 p.m. on the 25th, Patty Peterson will bring you material for Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. Stylistically, expect a wide range of sounds, from Charlie Parker to Ben Sidran to The Steeles and Tower Of Power.
Jazz88 will air NPR’s collection of hot live 2024 jazz concert recordings
to ring in the New Year, Toast of the Nation:
First on Tuesday, December 31 starting at 7 pm
and again on Wednesday, January 1 beginning at 6 am
