American Routes Memorial Day with the 2025 National Heritage Fellows… the musicians, storytellers, and artisans who have received our nation’s highest honor in the folk arts.

-Creole French musician, Edward Poullard;

-Haitian dancer and drummer, Peniel Guerrier;

-Japanese folk dancer, Adrienne Reiko Iwanaga;

-bit and spur maker, Ernie Marsh;

-Lakota artist and educator, Steve Tamayo;

-Mexican Folk costume maker and dancer, Carmen Baron;

-men’s choral and bandura ensemble, the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of North America.

Also, past visits with previously-awarded Fellows Del McCoury and Dr. Michael White, plus a glimpse into an historic Clifton Chenier box set, released in early 2026 for the late Louisiana Creole French King of Zydeco’s 100th birthday.

Noon:

Minnesota Jazz Legends 2025… the radio special capturing moments from the April 2025 celebration honoring long-serving and influential artists tied to the Minnesota jazz community. 2025’s honorees are:

-drummer Jay Epstein,

-pianist and Walker West Music Academy founder Grant West,

-Dixieland trombonist Art Katzman,

-the late vocalist Debbie Duncan.

Host and producer Patty Peterson shares moments from the studio and the stage where these local icons and their admirers discuss their musical journeys and showcase their continued artistry. The live performances by the Legends are accompanied by pianist Phil Aaron and his trio, featuring Graydon Peterson on bass and drummer Phil Hey.

Miles Davis in France… in honor of Miles’ centennial birthday on Tuesday.

Exclusive interviews and festival recordings tell us how Miles Davis and his band evolved over 1963 and 64 to become the legendary “Second Great Quintet” with Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, Ron Carter and Wayne Shorter. We’ll hear from Quintet members Herbie HancockRon Carter, and George Coleman, as well as biographer Marcus Moore.  Josh Jackson of WRTI Philadelphia is your host.
