The Sound of Gospel©, (SOG) a Black History Month celebration presented by 2nd Chance Outreach, shines a light on the artistry, spirituality, and storytelling at the heart of gospel music. People of all ages are welcome to attend this soul-stirring and uplifting staged production that celebrates and honors Black History Month through the soundscape of African American history and spiritual resilience.
The show takes the audience on an expansive historical musical journey featuring musical styles of devotions and hymns, work and freedom songs, ring shouts, Negro spirituals, choirs and quartets, up to today’s contemporary and urban gospel. The live performance includes dramatic reenactments of historical moments.
The much-loved production is produced by playwright and producer Rev. William Pierce of 2nd Chance Outreach; it’s directed by Academy Award-nominated actress, playwright and vocalist Jevetta Steele; with musical direction by Dr. Ellington Porter.
The show is approximately 120 minutes in length including a 15-minute intermission.
