Jubilee: Celebrating the Roots of African American Sacred Music

Marking Jubilee Day, this concert commemorates the 1871 tour that first carried African American spirituals to a global audience — the moment sacred choral music became recognized as a powerful and enduring American art form.

WDP Crew, led by Motown-born child prodigy William Duncan, blends jazz, classical, and gospel with a one-of-a-kind approach. Duncan, who has collaborated with gospel legends like Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark and The Clark Sisters, recently composed an original piece for the “Art in This Present Moment” initiative by the Saint Paul and Minnesota Foundation. The group features powerhouse vocalist Robert Robinson, who has performed with legends such as Aretha Franklin, Barry Manilow, and Jermaine Jackson. Notably, Robinson also opened for one of Prince’s birthdays and was a featured vocalist with pianist Lorie Line.
