Our first in a planned series of recordings from the Williamsburg Room at The Lexington in St. Paul features gifted trumpeter Omar AbdulKarim. After training at the New School and working in New York for over a decade, he’s back in the Twin Cities. AbdulKarim has shared the stage and studio with the likes of Roy Hargrove, Nicholas Payton, Redman & Method Man, and KRS-ONE.
Recorded Thursday night, Sept. 20 and originally broadcast Sept. 29, AbdulKarim plays trumpet and flugelhorn, Rodney Ruckus on drums, Peter Schimke on piano and Ted Olsen on bass. Omar’s dad and early teacher Ahmed AbdulKarim makes a special appearance, also on trumpet. The repertoire for this show is a tip of the hat to the music of Miles Davis.
Event sponsors are Porsche of St Paul, Tattersall Distilling,Wabasha Brewing Company, The Williamsburg Room at the Lexington, and Jazz88.
