Thursday, 10 a.m.  noon: Vocalist Connie Evingson and guitarist Sam Miltich lead an all-star Minnesota jazz combo as the musical feature for the Great Northern Radio Show.  Recorded Saturday at the historic Hibbing High School auditorium, it’s the latest edition of the variety series highlighting northern Minnesota culture.  Produced by our Ampers allies at Northern Community Radio KAXE/KBXE, with support from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

We talk tradition and technique with Native American basket-weaver Kelly Church; Palestinian embroiderer Feryal Abbasi-Ghnaim; rodeo tailor Manuel Cuevas; Chicana altarista Ofelia Esparza and African American quilter Marion Coleman.

Thursday, 2 p.m.: Trumpeter Omar AbdulKarim, now back in the Twin Cities after a decade of NYC-based success, leads a quartet including Rodney Ruckus on drums, Peter Schimke on piano and Ted Olsen on bass.  Recorded live at the Williamsburg Room at the Lexington in St. Paul, Sept. 20, 2018.
