Founder and artistic director of Brownbody, Deneane Richburg, talks about the organizations upcoming figure skating performances called Brownbody: Tracing Sacred Steps. Deneane was joined by Brownbody members Lajuné McMillian and Steven Smith.
Brownbody combines modern dance, theater, social justice practice, and figure skating and present artistic work on and off of the ice. Brownbody’s artistic work is known for centering Blackness and exploring honest and nuanced narratives around African American history and Africanist aesthetics. In addition to professional artistic performance, Brownbody achieves its mission through hosting workshops, community conversations, masterclasses, and community learn to skate lessons.
