Celebrate the heritage of a great music scene with this stream recording of some of Minnesota’s most notable jazz legends, hosted by Jazz88 host and award-winning vocalist Patty Peterson. On May 29, 2021, Crooners Supper Club hosted an intimate afternoon of live music and inspiring stories.
Presented by Jazz88 with support from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, Patty reminisces with these Twin Cities jazz legends, who have achieved local and national acclaim. Among these notables are Donald Washington (composer/arranger/tenor sax player), Maurice Jacox (jazz and R&B vocalist), Ron Seaman (keyboardist and composer), Ruth Johnson-Pelnis (pianist and vocalist), and Art Resnick (composer/pianist). These extraordinary artists, some still performing in their 80s, will be accompanied by the Phil Aaron Trio, featuring Phil Aaron (piano), Graydon Peterson (bass) and Phil Hey (drums). The Jazz Legends entertain with music that they love, and discuss how their individual journeys have become the musical history of Minnesota.
Host and producer Patty Peterson created the Legends series in 2015 and is now celebrating its sixth class of honorees. Peterson says that these Minnesota Legends are “living proof that Jazz, which was born here in America, is still alive and thriving in Minnesota, regardless of… age. By featuring these artists in this unique live concert/radio format, we will learn what the musical environment was like in the Twin Cities at the beginning of their careers, and how it has unfolded into today’s jazz scene…up-and-coming musicians and all lovers of jazz will learn much from these Minnesota artists.”
The performance will be recorded for a broadcast special to debut this summer, and will be archived for on-demand listening at www.jazz88.fm. Excerpts from the conversations will also air in short form on Minnesota Jazz Legends Moments on the station in the coming year.
