Kaitlin Cassady is an up-and-coming writer and performer getting ready to release her sophomore album North Star on September 4 at the Cedar Cultural Center. North Star features more jazzy moments than one might expect from a folk album, and one of those gems is the tune “Melancholy Daydreams.” On the tune, Cassady shows off her penchant for adventurous vocal harmonies while also ably supporting herself on the drumkit with Paul Cassady providing foundation on acoustic bass. Lyrically, the song is a bummer, no better way to put it than that! But the lyrics make the universal but solitary experience of being on “real life kinda sucks” island relatable, which ultimately makes it more navigable. So it’s a bummer. . .but it’s a bummer worth listening to!
