This year’s Jazz Legends will honor Arne Fogel. Fogel can be heard here on Jazz88 and is a vocalist. Honoree Gary Gauger is the drummer of our group. Gauger has played with the Airmen of Note and Sammy Davis Jr. Our third honoree is bassist Gary Raynor. If you look at Jazz88’s music calendar you will see Raynor sprinkled through the calendar all across town. Our fourth honoree is in memoriam for vocalist Shirley Witherspoon.
In partnership with Jazz88, the Minnesota History Center, and the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund, Patty Peterson presents Minnesota Jazz Legends—a series recognizing the pioneers of the Twin Cities jazz scene through concerts and radio specials. This event features live performances and intimate conversations, celebrating four honorees.
This special concert will be held at the Minnesota History Center, 345 W. Kellogg Blvd, St. Paul, MN, on Sunday, April 12, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 PM. Tickets: $25 for adults, $20 for MNHS Members, and $12 for ages 5–17. MNHS members and Jazz88 listener members save 20%. Purchase tickets online at Minnesota History Center or call 651-259-3015.
These jazz legends will share their musical journeys, showcasing their lasting contributions to Minnesota’s rich jazz legacy. They will be accompanied by the Phil Aaron Trio, featuring Phil Aaron (piano), Graydon Peterson (bass), and Jay Epstein (drums).
