Hot New Local Single: Leslie Vincent

Hot New Leslie
This week’s Hot New Local Single is an original song by Leslie Vincent called “Tallying Strangers.” It’s from her forthcoming album, Little Black Book.
Vincent grew up listening to Frank Sinatra as well as more contemporary vocalists like Brittany Spears, The style, phrasing, and instrumentation of her new recording harkens back to the days before rock and roll, when Sinatra,  Dinah Shore, Doris Day, and Nat King Cole dominated the pop charts.  Her performance is informed by a background in theatre and the striking aspect to me is the way she concisely concisely conveys a narrative.
The story that Vincent tells in this song is about frustration over the ordeal of finding love. Vincent writes, “The song is inspired by a friend frustrated by first dates. It reminded me of searching for love, how I thought I was doing all the right things, imagining my soulmate out there. It made me think about all the strangers that come into and out of our lives, and the utter unlikelihood of finding your soulmate. All this kicked off the thesis for this whole record.”

The performers include Vincent on vocals, with Patrick Adkins on keyboards, Blake Foster on guitar, Matt McIntyre on bass, and Mitch Van Laar on trumpet.

An album release party for Little Black Book is taking place at the Parkway Theater Sunday night, November 16th at 7pm.
